In 2020, during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance Governor Pritzker’s Executive Order 18, which had extended Stay-At-Home orders, the Governor provided for a suspension of the Open Meetings Act. Consequently, the Crete Township Board of Trustees Meetings were conducted using Zoom video conferencing.
During that time, the Township offered anyone who wished to attend the meetings remotely, to request the Zoom meeting link and password by either calling the Town Hall or emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org
The Governor’s Orders subsequently allowed for live meetings again under certain protocols. Consequently, the Town Board resumed live meetings in July 2020. In reopening the Town Hall and resumption of live meetings, the Township adopted CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines which include requiring all persons entering the Town Hall to wear face masks and to practice social distancing of at least 6 feet.
In February 2021, it came to our attention from a visitor that some may prefer the remote access option to be reinstated for purposes of attending the Township public meetings.
The Township is pleased to again provide the remote option. To request a Zoom link and password for public remote meetings, kindly contact us at 708-672-8279 or email us at email@example.com
Please note however, that in practice, the experience of combining live meetings coupled with remote access can be subpar in that it is can be difficult for the live and remote attendees to hear and view each other with proper clarity (some attending live and some attending via a laptop, tablet or phone) as opposed to meetings where everyone is either live or where everyone is remote.
Hopefully, as the COVID vaccines continue to roll-out and as the population becomes vaccinated, there will be a resumption of all live venues in which we can all safely participate.
